What about that wind? Pretty scary and many of us were without power at one time or another. I'm grateful for my wonderful electricity and being able to power up my sewing machines and even more important, my lights. Nothing like sitting in the dark with a needle you can't use. Anyway, we all love Moda. Moda Fabrics blog is probably familiar to you but worth checking out again. They are starting a BOM called Block Heads and it looks very nice and you will recognize some of the designers of this quilt. Actually, this is a Block of the Week so would that be a BOW, I'm just saying. The Moda blog is always posting something so it's a fun read. Their free and fun page is just that so check them out. I love the Cake Mix Recipes, these are not desserts, they are quilt blocks.
McCall's Quilting blog is another familiar place but worth checking out. Every Friday they are putting out a new pattern. Check out those cute dresses. Here are all their Friday freebies in one place. Have a great Thursday.

Happy Friday
McCall's Quilting is one of my favorite quilting magazines and their website is really nice. First, check out their beautiful Ireland Quilt BOM, which all the blocks are free and available for downloading instructions. The fresh green colors make me wish for spring. Here is a video class on applique and it's free into March. It looks like a really good class.
McCall's Quilting also puts out an America Loves Scraps/Winter Scrap Issue and has a quilt called Winter Galaxy as a preview of this issue and if you like blue, it's very pretty. Here is also a link to their favorite scrap patterns free ebook. Each one of these quilts looks like a great way to use up some of those never ending scraps. Anyway, keep looking at this site and there are many features to choose from and I loved it. And here is their Facebook.
I always love to check out the RJR Fabrics site and they have posted some new patterns. Love those Jinny Beyers quilts! And then her Ashford Quilt.
Not sure if I put this on before but Shabby Fabrics had a great BOM for 2013 that is still available. If you like hearts, you'll like this. Also, check out all their lovely patterns and fabrics, the fabrics are just beautiful.
Have a happy Friday. Diana

The "X" Quilt Demo
Here are a few pictures of my demonstration on the "X" Quilt this past Monday. If you plan to do this quilt, perhaps the pictures will help you out. I also found a free pattern at McCall's Quilting called Scrappity-do-dah, which is very similar to the quilt I demonstrated. Check it out, as they offer instructions and fabric requirements for a 63" x 81" quilt. While you are at McCall's Quilting site, look under "Bonuses" on the top bar, and you will see the tons of free patterns they offer. So many wonderful quilts!

This quilt was made from an assortment of fat quarters.
Diana made this scrappy one by using up some of her stash and making squares.
Squares...cut diagonally...strip piece together....
If colors are planned, you can play with the layout of the blocks. Many of the Log Cabin type layouts will work.
This one is like the "Streak of Lightening". This one will be given as a soldier quilt.
These two table runners are made from charm pack sized squares.
And a little Valentine candle mat made from four blocks.
Hope you were all inspired by the demonstration to give this fast, fun, easy quilt a try!
Laurie
