New Members

Welcome to the Pine Needle Quilters Guild!  We are happy that you have joined us, and we hope you enjoy our group.
About the Group
The Pine Needle Quilters formed in May of 2003.  We meet at the Breed Community Center on Hwy. 32, North of Suring, WI, on the third Monday of the month a 6:00 p.m. for our regular meeting.  We also meet on the first Monday of the month at 9:00 a.m. for a sewing day.  Bring a project and a lunch and spend the day quilting with friends.  Quilting is our passion and we are dedicated to sharing our love of quilting with our community.
Meeting Activities
When you come to the  meeting, please sign in so we know who you are.  We usually have a Fat Quarter Raffle, which costs $1.00 per entry.  We use this money to help pay for the cost of using the Breed Community Center.
We will have a brief business meeting. At each regular meeting we also have a presentation.  This can range from a new quilting technique, a demonstration on a new quilt pattern, to a trunk show.  We usually end the meeting with Show and Tell, where members and guest will show the projects that they have finished up.  It is usually very inspiring!
Dues
Dues for the group are $20 for the year, and are due in May.
By Laws and Committees
At the top of our blog  you will find another page that contains a listing of our Committees and By Laws.
Quilt Show
Our quilt show is held every other year on the even years.  It is held  in October at the Suring High School.  We have a lot of wonderful quilters, and it shows in the lovely quilts that come in for the show.  Our show displays quilts of members only, and we have over 200 quilts at each of our shows.
Other  Guild Activities
At times we have also had speakers come in from outside our guild to lead us in a workshop, or lecture.  We have also gone on a bus trip.  Ideas welcome!
Community Service
We have given many quilts over the years for various reasons.  We have quilts on hand for folks in our communities that have had a home fire, or perhaps a serious illness.  We have given quilts to pediatric oncology, Hurricane Katrina, tornado victims, comfort quilts for dogs and cats and for many other reasons.  Every Christmas we have been giving Christmas stockings to our local hospitals to give away to children hospitalized over the holidays.  We also give baby quilts to our local hospitals, for the first babies born nearest to National Quilting Day in March.
We are very proud of the commitment we have made to our Veteran's.  We started making quilts for Veteran's in 2007, and since that time have given over 700 quilts to our men and women in the military.  (past and present)   This year (2017) if you want to make a quilt for a Veteran, it can either go to a local Senior who is going into the military, a local VFW or Legion post, veteran's in hospice care, or homeless veterans.  You decide where you would like your quilt to go.  Backing is available at the town hall for these quilts, and some batting now as well.
For many years now, we have walked our quilts in the Mountain Memorial Day Parade, and of late also the Suring Labor Day Parade.

  1. Dear Guild Program Chairperson,
I’m a long-time quilter who joined forces with my husband, Bill, two years ago to create quilt art by combining my quilts with his ability to create shape and dimension from wood to bring movement to the designs. Please visit us at www.threadandtimberquilts.com to see our work. We’ve had some success selling our work through a gallery in our area and at a recent fiber arts show sponsored by the Big Water Fiber Artists and the Warped Up North Weavers here in the Bayfield Peninsula area. Earlier this fall, we were invited to make presentations at two quilt guilds, one in Siren, WI and one in Hayward, WI, and we came to the realization that we really enjoyed the presentations! We bring some examples of what we’re doing, utilize a power point presentation to show more of our work and talk about our process. We capitalize on the humor found in being a couple, married 49 years with distinctly different ways of working, suddenly working together to create art. Both guilds enjoyed it enormously, had lots of good questions and repeatedly said “we’ve never seen anything like this”. We realized that this might be our “niche” and have another guild presentation scheduled for January in Rhinelander, WI.
We are currently hoping to book more presentations for 2022 and would like you to consider us for a meeting of your guild. Our fee is $300 and we will cover milage and any other necessary lodging or meal costs.

We look forward to hearing from you at billandbarbgover@gmail.com or Bill and Barb Gover, 85685 Eight Point Lane, Bayfield, WI 54814 or by phone 715-331-9322 (Barb) or 715-331-9306 (Bill).
    Regards,
