Its been a while since posting but like many others, I've been taking advantage of the nice weather and getting some outdoor things done.
We did do a very wonderful "outdoor" activity and that was celebrating our veterans with the local VFW at the cemetary. They always present a stirring ceremony for the vets and have a coffee and donut get together at the Tabor Lutheran Church. It is here that we display our quilts that are going to various places like Afghanistan and Germany to hospitals.
The variety was very pretty and I'm sure they will be much appreciated. We ended up with a total of 48 quilts. My sister Jenny has friends who also donated 2 quilts, quilts were also donated from the quilter's at Tabor Church, we certainly appreciate their contribution and that of our members. So thank you so much for your efforts and that of those who showed up to display them and get them ready to ship.

Still More May Show and Tell Quilts
Here are some more of the Show and Tell quilts from our May meeting.
Deb shows a cute little girl outfit. What fun polka dots!
Deb did a lot of folding to make this project.
Laurie made this scrappy quilt from remnants of other projects
Terri made the two quilts above, which she plans to give to family members for wedding gifts.
Carol finishes her Mystery Quilt!
This Memory Quilt was made for Carol's granddaughter.
Here Carol shows her Strip Joint Quilt. This quilt is made with 2 1/2 inch strips, this one in Civil War fabrics.

More May Show & Tell
Here are still more of the lovely quilts brought in by members for our May Show and Tell. Enjoy!
Malea proudly shows a quilt her mother, Dolly made (with help from Toot's). Malea's father was a logger, and the quilt has pictures of the woods on it for him.
Judy show her Round Robin quilt that she and members of her FDL quilt guild made.
This is a festive Mardi Gras table runner.
Here is the Mystery Quilt by Judy. What a neat lay out.
One of Judy's many "mini's"!
This quilt has many musical notes on it, and was made for Judy's nephew.
I apologize if some of my photos are a bit blurry, as the sun was shining in and causing some problems for this not so perfect photographer!

May Show and Tell
I really thought we had a fun and inspiring Show and Tell this month. I guess this cold spring we have been having has given us extra time for our quilting! This is only part of the quilts that came in, and I will continue to post them until I get them all up for you to admire.
Here Toni shows her Piece and Play quilt. For a fairly new quilter she sure is making some beauties! What a bunch of wonderful colors.
Carol made her Allure table runner in patriotic fabrics.
Carol was so inspired by her Mystery table runner, that she made a set of 4 place mats to match!
Kathy displays her striking quilt in summery colors.
Many of the blocks in Barb's sampler quilt commemorate states that her daughter traveled through on her move to Wyoming.

Rhoda Honored by her Local Newspaper
One of our members, Rhoda, did have a quilted accepted into the AQS Paducah show this year. Her local paper featured her in an article and an online honor here. Way to go Rhoda! and congratulations on the recognition.

Quiltmakers 100 Quilt Blocks and some good Blogs
Quiltmaker Magazine is coming out very shortly with their third volume of 100 quilt blocks designed by some of todays best designers. It looks really nice and I was reminded of how great it is to have well written instructions when Carol showed us a really beautiful book at the last sewing session. It had no measurements what so ever for the components of the blocks! Yikes...I know you could sit down and figure out some of them but others, I'm not so sure.
Anyway, I visited a couple of the blogs for some of the designers and found some nice goodies. Vickie Eapen at Spunsugar Quilts has many great tutorials listed on the sidebar of her blog. There are some great gift ideas there.
Vaness at Crafty Gemini has many tutorials and recipes, a lot of her tutorials are videos which are really informative.
Sonja at Artisania has some great patterns that are paper pieced for all you" p-pers"out there and I just love her Halloween pp patterns. If you need to refresh your skills or have never tried it before, she also has some detailed videos about paper piecing. Just can't beat that! These are just a few but some good ones.
Keep sewing. Diana

The Last of Our April Show and Tell
Finally I am getting the last of our April Show and Tell up for you to see. I hope you have enjoyed looking at everyone's projects
Here Carol shows her Stars quilt. How pretty!
Carol also made a cute purse.
Laurie made two wintery table runners.
Here is the first of Laurie's Kaleidoscope wall hangings.
Here is the second kaleidoscope quilt. With a little figuring she was able to cut both of these quilts from the same strata strips. They each also have different border treatments. They sure do look different, even though they are made from the same fabric strips.
I look forward to our next show and tell. I am always so inspired by all of the wonderful projects!

New Page for Our Blog
I went back through our blog and created a new page called Nice Places to Visit. It has the links of all the blogs and websites that we have featured in our regular postings. Now you can go back and visit all those places again without going through the whole blog and remember, these people update their blogs and sites regularly so you will probably find new things. A nice, fast way to keep up with some of those wonderful quilters.
The list is long! I'm impressed with all the "looking" we've done. As for myself, I know I will never be able to do all those projects but isn't it nice to see what everyone else comes up with? I am always inspired by someone else's work and it kinda energizes me onto some new creativity. I will try and keep the page up to date regularly and hope you've enjoyed it.

Reminder: Sewing Session With Soup & Salad Pot Luck
Just a reminder if you are coming to the sewing session on Monday, May 2, we are having a soup and salad pot luck meal. (or whatever would go along with that!) Some of the ladies are going to be there at 12:30, but feel free to come later if you can't be there that early. If you forgot about the soup and salad part and your cupboard is bare, don't worry about it! Come with a box of crackers or bag of chips and enjoy an afternoon of sewing with your friends! Beverages will not be provided, so bring whatever it is you'd like to drink. I will have bowls, plates, spoons, forks, napkins there.
