During a recent trip to the AQS Quilt Show in Paducah, Kentucky a group of Pine Needle Quilter ladies made a side trip into Ft. Campbell to deliver quilts.
Fifty quilts were donated to the SOS (Survivor Outreach Services) at the base at Ft. Campbell. The SOS program is committed to the families of the fallen. They were so happy to receive the quilts from us! Any survivor of a fallen veteran may go to SOS and get support from the wonderful people who work there.
The SOS is housed in the Parrish House, which had been the commanding generals quarters for 70 years. Prior to that it was a two story log home belonging to a prominent farmer. We were given a tour of the Parrish House as well as the Army base at Ft. Campbell. It was all very interesting to see the base, and learn some of the history of the 101st Airborne, The Screaming Eagles. We also toured the Fisher House there. The Fisher House is a place where family members may stay for free while a family member is hospitalized on the base. (sort of like an army version of a Ronald McDonald House)
Thank you to those of you who made quilts last year, and I can say for sure that the quilts (finally) went to a very good cause!
