April Show & Tell

A few show and tell pictures for you to enjoy!

Nice to have some of our "Snowbirds" coming back...we get a chance to see what sort of projects they have been doing over the winter.  Here Pat shows "Arizona"....look close, you will see the lovely cactus blooms.  Congratulations to Pat for receiving a 3rd place Viewer's Choice ribbon for this quilt!
Below you will see that she used up some of the extra fabric to create a lovely table runner as well.

Carol drew from her stash to make this lovely "Nature Ombre".  Love the colors, don't you?

Terri made this cute quilt "Dancing Deer".  Nice to see that she is ahead of the game getting those projects ready for the Holidays!

Another quilt by Terri, but I am sorry I do not have the name....it is very striking isn't it?

This pastel beauty is a Post-it-Note quilt made by Kathy.  She used Jennifer Chiaverini fabrics in this design.

Kris shows a very nice Mile-A-Minute that she made.  Way to go!
Hope you all enjoy these lovely quilts.

Pop-Up Books

Members enjoyed a very creative and lively demonstration by Deb S. on pop up books!
It was a so nice to have Leah's niece with us showing us her wonderful books.

Deb showed us the complex nature of some pop up books, and one wonderful thing being that they must be made by hand, machines are not capable of assembling.  We also got to see some altered books that she has made.

The most interesting book was one
based around a poem that was written for Deb's granddaughter...regarding the construction of a sandwich, and the interruptions that happened between the sandwich layers!

Here you see some of the pop up sandwich layers

Each pop up section of the poem was stored in cute little pockets.

And then stored in a long row of pockets that then roll up into a sweet bundle of verse!

We so enjoyed this wonderful demonstration, as well as the enthusiastic lady behind it!

Sun Prairie Bus Trip

In the early morning hours of  April 8th, 36 members and friends headed down to the Prairie Heritage Quilt Show in Sun Prairie, WI.
First stop was for a quick breakfast and then on to Mill House Quilt Shop  in Waunakee.  Before we arrived however, a little spending money and gift certificates were won by several lucky ladies!

Purchases were made, and a lot of browsing at Mill House Quilt Shop.

Next stop was to the quilt show.  All seemed to enjoy the quilts and vendors....probably a few more purchases were made.  Off to lunch to Gus's Diner.  They were not expecting a bus load of ladies, and did a fine job providing us with excellent food and service.

After our bellies were filled we loaded back onto the bus for more door prizes of fabric for some lucky ladies.  Then on to Appleton to check out a newer quilt shop in  called Keep Me In Stitches Quilt Shop.  We were pampered with fresh strawberries, short bread cookies, water and some very fine discounts for us "Up North Bus Babes"!
Hope all enjoyed our day away together!

Patchwork Chevron and March Show and Tell

I am so behind on getting pictures posted on the blog!  Here our meeting is tomorrow night, and I have yet to post pictures from last months meeting.
Diana did a really nice showing on the Chevron quilt.  You will find a really nice tutorial on it here.  It really looks like a fun and fast quilt to make.

The black, white and yellow quilt is so dramatic.

And, the pastels are so soft and lovely.  Same pattern, both so different!

And now, onto a little show and tell!

Several of the ladies brought in some of the Lawn Chair Quilt tops that they made at the Summer Picnic Party.

Terri has been busy making chef hats for her grandsons, as well as lots of cute animal aprons for her granddaughters.

Sue shows her "Play Ball" quilt.  Nice and bright!

Kathy shows her lovely Ohio Star quilt.  Below is her "Gone With the Wind Quilt"...that is her favorite book and movie!

Carol made a very cute Bunnies in the Garden Quilt.

Remember when Deb brought in all of her scraps and asked us to foundation piece blocks?  The above quilt is the lovely end result!  It will be given to a soldier.  Deb also made the quilt below for a soldier.

Malea has a Woodsy Wonder baby quilt above and a spring wool wall hanging below.

Laurie shows a soldier quilt made from the "X" block, with the layout in a spiral design.

This quilt by Judy is called Bricks and Stepping Stones.

A Snowman quilt.

A beautiful wrought iron gate.

A soldier quilt.

A mini log cabin.  Judy is always so amazingly productive.

See you all at our meeting tomorrow...April 15.  It is election of officers.  We will be taking dues which are $15 for the year.  Also if you are attending the 10 year PNQ Anniversary Celebration, sign up, and that cost is $10.  Should be a fun evening, as the demo will be on a pop-up book.

Where is Spring?

Did I miss it?  I don't think so.Can't do much about it though so looking at pretty quilts is a great mood enhancer.  The quilt show at Sun Prairie was great and the trip was fun.  I hope everyone purchased some fun new fabrics.  Now we need some patterns to use them in.
This quilt called Mediterranean Dream by Quilting Treasures sure fit the need to piece and applique on quilts.  I like the sort of scrappy look to it also.
Block A Day shows you how to do flying geese in a simple way, you also end up with 4 flying geese each time.  I love this technique.
The Quilter Magazine has a project appropriately named Sunny Day. It's a very pretty quilt made medallion style with star and basket blocks.  A lot of work but it makes a large quilt.
I also like this Stars and Stripes quilt from the Quilter Magazine.  Enjoy these.  Diana
