August Show and Tell...At Last!

It has been some time since my last post, and I apologize for that...I have been having some computer problems, and I am not the best always at sorting those out.  On to our lovely August Show and Tell!

Sue added some sunflowers to her Calendar Quilt.  A fun way to use up some scraps!

This Four Patch Posie quilt was started by Sue in her motel room, while at the AQS Show in Paducah.

Another Mystery Quilt top done...made by Laurie.

Lynette made this Bow-tuck purse for a friend...who is NOT a Packer fan.

This lovely Thimbleberry design was made by Carol.

Carol will give this Log Cabin Quilt away as a wedding gift.
Keep quilting everyone!

Monday Meeting Reminders

It is hard to believe it, but it is again time for our monthly meeting on Monday, August 15!  We hope that many of you will be able to be there.  Our guest speakers are Judy and Terrie, from the Quilting Diva's Boutique.  They will be doing some demos, as well as offering items for sale.  I am sure it will be an enjoyable presentation.
Remember, Sheila is asking for donations of fat quarters, or nice sized scraps (about 5" x 7") to use in our quilt shows raffle quilt.  Please bring fabrics in lovely autumn colors to the August meeting.
See you all there for fun, inspiration and a wonderful Show and Tell I am sure!

Our Blog...Who Is Looking?

Hello to all of our quilt guild members, and visitors to our blog as well!  At one of our meetings we had talked about who was all looking at our blog, and where they were from.
Just to give you a little bit of statistics, at this time we have had 7,535 views to our blog.  You can find this information if you scroll down to the bottom of the page.
It is also interesting to know that we have had many visitors to our blog, most from the USA, but over all the others that visit our blog most often are from Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Brazil, Spain and Norway.
How do they find our blog you might ask, well, if you notice at the end of each blog entry we have "labels".  When someone does an internet search on say something like "carding mill", it may bring up our article on our field trip to the carding mill for example.
It is kind of fun to know that people from other countries visit our blog, and we welcome you!  Other countries that we have had visits from are Mexico, India, Bangladesh, Belgium, Brazil, China, Poland, South Korea, Latvia, United Arab Emirates, Russia, France just to name some.
Be assured, we will never put any personal information on our blog, such as your last name, phone numbers, addresses etc., as our blog is open to everyone, and it is so important to protect ourselves.  It is interesting to know that we have a world wide audience to our blog.

Aprons Everywhere

You all know that for our September meeting we are all to bring in our aprons, vintage and new ones as well.  Aprons have really made a come back as of late....have they ever gone out of style?  Not at my house anyways, I do love my aprons.  In the past I had been compared to June Cleaver from "Leave It To Beaver", but I didn't let that bother me!  I am wearing my apron even as I write this entry...REALLY I am!
If you are looking for some free patterns for making an apron check out these 24 free apron patterns at Tip Junkie. There you will find links to these cute aprons.  I especially like the clothes pin apron.  I think that would be a handy one to have when I am hanging out my laundry...at my house the clothes line hasn't gone out of style either.
The other day I was traveling around and stopped at Jeri's Quilt Patch in Norway, Michigan, and much to my delight she had a display of all of her vintage aprons in her classroom space.  If you get up that way, it would be fun to take a peek at those.  She also had a lot of nice sales, and does an online business as well.
My sister told me that there is even The Apron Museum at Iuka, Mississippi!  Who would think that the apron could be so popular!  It will be fun to see all of the aprons at our September meeting!

Free Motion Quilting Design Inspiration

Whether you are a "pro" or beginner at free motion quilting on your home sewing machine, or perhaps you are a long arm quilter.  In any case you should check out the Free Motion Quilting Project, which was created by a very talented and creative lady named Leah Day.  If you go to her site, she offers video tutorials on the basics of free motion quilting, as well as hundreds of video tutorials of different designs.  Go to her site, and click on  "Find a Design", and it will take you to another page where you can choose quilting designs by category, such as Skill Level, Fillers, Directional Texture, etc.  Also take some time to check out the rest of this generous ladies website!
Another inspiring site is Patsy Thompson Designs, where you will also find a lot of information on home machine quilting basics, as well as a lot of downloadable quilting patterns, just click on "Education".  Check out her gallery as well, and visit the rest of her site.  It is so wonderful that these ladies are willing to share so much information for free to whomever is interested in learning more.  I think you will enjoy visiting these two sites, and will come away inspired to try some new designs for your machine quilting.

Purses and Still More Purses!

At our August sewing session, many of the ladies created these lovely small purses.  Barb S. assisted the ladies with this project, with many of the ladies making a purse within and hour.  Some even made two!
It was a fun and fast project, with instant gratification.
No UFO's for this group!  The ladies proudly pose with one or TWO purses!  Thanks Barb, for a fun and easy project.
